Before you use your device for the first time, charge the battery. It takes about 4 hours.
- Plug in your charging dock.
- Make sure the dock is right side up. The shiny ring with the gold pin should face up.
- Place your device on top of the dock, with the side that says Cefaly facing up.
- While charging, the light will blink green. When it’s fully charged, the light will stay green.
Wash your forehead before every session. This helps the electrode stick.
- Use soap and water to wash between and above your eyebrows. Dry your skin well.
- Do NOT use makeup remover, lotion cleansers, or alcohol wipes instead of soap and water.
Peel the electrode off the clear plastic. Handle it by the edges.
- Save the plastic and the bag to store the electrode later.
Before use, check the gel surface. If it is dried out, dirty, or cracked, use a new electrode.
Use a mirror or the Cefaly Start app to help you place the electrode correctly.
- Place the curved part between your eyebrows. The wings should be about half an inch above your brow ridge (the bony part of your eyebrow).
- Press it down so it’s flat and sticks well.
If the electrode doesn’t stick well, or if it curls up at the edges, throw it away and get a new one.

- Open the app and tap the blue power button on the home screen.
- Press the button on your Cefaly to wake it. The light will blink dark blue.
- When the app asks for your PIN, enter the 6-number code below the magnets on the back of your Cefaly. The app will save your PIN.
- The app will tell you when you’re connected. Your Cefaly will beep and show a solid dark blue light.
Hold the device by the edge and bring it to your forehead.
- The magnets on the back of the device will pull it into place.
- Lie down or lie back while the device is in place. Don’t move around.
- CEFALY will beep 2 times.
- The light will flash purple. (Purple = Prevent)
To start Prevent with the button on your Cefaly, press the button 1 time. When you see the aqua light press the button a second time.
You will see the purple light and hear 2 beeps.
- CEFALY will beep 1 time.
- The light will flash aqua. (Aqua = Acute)
To start Acute with the button on your Cefaly, press the button 1 time.
You will see the aqua light and hear 1 beep.
Use the 20-minute Prevent program daily for migraine prevention. Use the 60-minute Acute program for relief at the first sign of a migraine attack.
CEFALY stimulation should always feel comfortable. You do not need to use CEFALY at maximum intensity to see treatment benefits.
- The stimulation intensity will get stronger for the first 14 minutes of the session, until it reaches the maximum level.
- When you definitely notice the feeling, but it still feels OK, press STABILIZE in the app. The stimulation will not get any stronger.
- You can also press the CEFALY button once to stabilise.
- If treatment feels too weak, press + in the app.
If treatment feels too strong, press STOP in the app. Or twist the device, then pull it away from your forehead. Then, restart your session.
If your eyebrow or eyelid twitches for 3 minutes or more, the electrode might be in the wrong place. Stop treatment, and try moving the electrode up slightly. Then, restart treatment.
When the session ends, the device will beep and turn off.
- You might still feel a little tingling for a few minutes.
- Gently twist the device and pull it away from your forehead.
- Carefully peel off the electrode at the corners and put it back on the plastic. Store and seal the electrode in the bag.
- Recharge your CEFALY device so it is ready for the next use.
The adhesive electrodes can be reused for multiple Cefaly treatments. To make them last longer:
Wash and dry your forehead before each treatment session. Use basic soap, not alcohol wipes or facial cleansers.
Apply the electrode to clean, dry skin, without any moisturizers or makeup.
Handle electrodes by the edge, and wash your hands before applying the electrode.
Recline or lie down when attaching Cefaly and during your treatment.
When you remove an electrode after treatment, immediately replace it on the plastic backing, adhesive side down. Then seal it in the electrode pouch.
