The pain is only felt on one side, always the same side, and is generally located at eye level and just above. It is accompanied by conjunctival injection (red eye) and watering of the eye.
The progress of these painful attacks is very specific. Over a period of several weeks, the subject has at least one attack a day, sometimes even several a day.
Each attack lasts between 20 minutes and two hours. The periods of pain spanning several weeks are interspersed with periods that are pain-free and that can last several months or years.
Cefaly does not appear to be able to offer a preventative solution for this type of pain. However, the use of programme 1 (attack treatment) several times in succession when the pain is present helps partially alleviate the pain.
The duration of an attack varies from one individual to another, and can last anything from 20 minutes to 2 hours. Use programme 1 during a painful attack for as long as is required.
At the end of the twenty-minute session, the intensity reduces gradually over the course of 30 seconds.
During this stage, a simple press on the button will immediately start a new twenty-minute session.
This can be repeated as many times as are required for the Cefaly to work its effect for the duration of the attack.
As a preventative measure, at least two sessions of 20 minutes a day must be carried out with programme 2 (morning and evening).
There is still insufficient clinical data, however, to be able to tell whether this preventative protocol is adequate.
