One or several branches of the trigeminal nerve can be damaged or irritated for numerous reasons: vascular malformation, tumours, inflammation, etc.
Aside from treating the cause, Cefaly® provides very effective treatment for symptoms of nerve pain if it affects the area of the ophthalmic branch of the trigeminal nerve (orbit, forehead, anterior half of the skull).
On the other hand, Cefaly will be of no help if the condition affects the inferior branches of the trigeminal nerve – i.e. if the pain is located at the level of the inferior or superior jawbone and the cheekbone area.
If the neuralgia affects the superior branch (Willis ophthalmic nerve), Cefaly’s programme 1 can help reduce pain.
Use programme 1 as required. At the end of the twenty-minute session, the intensity reduces gradually over the course of 30 seconds. During this stage, a simple press on the button will immediately start a new twenty-minute session.
Sharp, severe pain, like a discharge, that lasts less than one minute and is located at the level of the upper lip and gum as well as the nostrils and cheekbone.
Very rarely, neuralgia affects the area of the ophthalmic nerve, i.e. the orbit, the forehead and the anterior part of the skull.
It is only in this very rare case of essential neuralgia of the ophthalmic branch of the trigeminal nerve that Cefaly® can be of use.
In the rare case of essential neuralgia affecting the ophthalmic branch of the trigeminal nerve, programme 1 should be used once a day.
